There is a reason Business Schools report Median test scores, and not the Mean . The Mean or average scores would be a lot lower. See the video below to understand why. Business Schools usually admit two types of students. 1. The majority of students who have average test scores, and are allowed in for the loans they take and fees they bring. 2. A few high-scoring scholarship students who serve two purposes, marketing and increasing Median scores. Can confirm this first-hand, having been in the latter category. An occasional Bill Gates or a Mark Zuckerberg are great for maintaining the school's reputation. But the question is why aren't there more of them? Because those cases are really rare. But you can have half your students at 730 and the other half in the low 600s , and still report a Median score of 730. Guess what the actual average score would be.
