Zomato - How To Ruin A Great App

From: Great Food Guide

Used to be an avid Zomato user.

Had reviews, followers, collections, the whole shebang. Without even trying really!

Zomato was the perfect place for researching and reviewing good places to eat at. The ultimate food guide.

Sounds great, right?

Except now you can do almost none of the things that made Zomato great to begin with.

Warning Signs...

It probably started with the push to use the app. The site kept pushing you to install the app when you were trying to look up restaurants.

But Zomato needs access to neither my location nor my camera to be a food guide. So, not installing the app on my phone.

Then the ratings started becoming suspect. Barely average places had thousands of ratings with aggregates of 4.9 etc. Zomato said it was vetting them, but c'mon! Let's get real.

Next could no longer create collections, or even modify one's existing collections. May need to install the app for that. But again, that ain't gonna happen for reasons explained above.

Now, the Zomato site keeps telling you to order deliveries when trying to find a place to dine out

To: Failed Delivery App?

Not sure how well the new delivery model is working for Zomato. Use Swiggy myself for deliveries. Actually started with Zomato but stopped using them for deliveries due to poor customer service, when reporting unsealed packages etc.

Maybe they've improved. No idea really!

Users know that a business needs to make money. But why not do it like most other aggregation services with ads? Why push us to install apps and order deliveries we don't need?

Users also know when they're being pushed into something that they have no need for, unless you're an actual visionary like Steve Jobs who knew what users needed before they did. Installing apps to maintain collections definitely ain't one of those cases. That's something easily done on the browser.

Conclusion

Great food guide to failed delivery app? Well, the management seems to know better than the users. So guess we best leave it to them then.

And use something else that makes more sense.

Maybe Google places. Who knows!

The Zomato search doesn't work anymore for looking up restaurants anyway.
